Jason Kendall‘s run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning off Brian Harvey plated Travis Shaw with the go-ahead run, giving the team of Sons a 5-4 victory over a squad of Fathers in the seventh game of Strat-O-Matic’s special Father’s Day series featuring an assortment of the best dads and sons ever to play baseball. Game 7 was played on Father’s Day following a standard World Series scheduling format for the previous six games.
The Sons side rallied from a three games to one deficit, earning the win in the decisive contest which was started by Jaret (Sons) and Clyde (Fathers) Wright. The Fathers had tied it in the bottom of the ninth on Tony Gwynn‘s one-out sacrifice fly, scoring Craig Biggio, who had tripled off Rob Nen. Nen pitched a 1-2-3 tenth inning to get the win after blowing the save.
The teams were represented by 30 father-son combinations. Every player on the roster was used at least once during the seven games.
