Yankees Picked to Win East, Fall in ALDS in Strat-O-Matic Simulation

The Yankees were hard-pressed to live up to last year’s Strat-O-Matic season simulation, which had them winning the World Series. Today, the venerable sports simulation game producer has tabbed the Pinstripers to win the A.L. East with a 99-63 mark, but fall in the ALDS to Minnesota.

Fans hoping for a huge one-two punch from Aaron Judge and newly-acquired Juan Soto will get their wish, according to the sim. Judge earns MVP honors with a 48 home run, 113 RBI and  .962 OPS year, while Soto posts a .981 OPS with 46 HR and 132 RBI.

Atlanta wins the 2024 World Series in the SOM simulation, topping Houston for the title. In addition to Judge, Minnesota’s Pablo Lopez turns in a 20-8 mark, 3.15 ERA and 235 strikeouts to win the Cy Young. In the N.L., Mookie Betts’ move to shortstop makes him an even more integral part of the Dodgers, garnering his second MVP with a .281 average, .945 OPS, 40 home runs and 118 RBI. Atlanta’s Spencer Strider breaks through for his first Cy Young, posting a 20-5 record and stellar 2.79 ERA with 260 whiffs.

As for the Mets? SOM isn’t as bullish, having them compile a 78-84 record, good for a third-place finish in the N.L. East, 21 games behind the Braves. Francisco Lindor paces the offense with 27 home runs and 74 RBI and .709 OPS, while Pete Alonso socks 45 home runs, drives in 115 and posts a .848 OPS and Jeff McNeil hits a solid .301 with 17 home runs and team-best 4.8 WAR.
