With a  40-30 record, it’s not a complete shock that the Mets are in contention for a playoff spot heading for the Dog Days of Summer, but many question marks going into the season have been answered from unlikely sources.The Mets are second in the National League East, 1.5 games behind the even-more-surprising Braves, and lead in the Wild Card race after Tuesday night’s rain-soaked, 14-6 win over the Tigers at Citi Field.
