Foley’s Offers ‘The Jay Horwitz’ Burger For Longtime NY Mets PR Man

In honor of Jay Horwitz, the Vice President of Alumni Relations and Team Historian for the New York Mets, Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant (18 W. 33rd St.), has announced the “Jay Horwitz Burger” as its stuffed burger of the week.

The Jay Horwitz Stuffed Burger will be stuffed with pork roll, to honor his home state of New Jersey, and American cheese and served with sweet potato fries and Blue Corn Chips for a nice blue-and-orange Mets side dish.

“This week’s stuffed burger was actually supposed to debut a month ago, but a certain Mets third baseman announced his retirement, and we had to push it back,” said Shaun Clancy, owner of Foley’s, widely recognized as New York’s top baseball bar and one of the best sports bars in the country. “Having to push things to one side because of Mets news is nothing new to this week’s honoree.”

Jay Horwitz has been with the New York Mets since April 1, 1980. He served as Vice President of Media Relations for nearly four decades and will now be moving to a new role as VP of Alumni Relations and Team Historian.

“There is no man better suited for both jobs,” Clancy said. “Jay has lived and died with his Mets. So, there is no one better to work with the alumni, since as he is beloved by them. I can’t tell you how many former Mets I’ve met over the years and everyone asks, ‘How’s Jay?’.”

“There are many superlatives I can use to describe Jay,” Clancy added. “Loyal, caring and humble come to mind, but mostly I am just very proud to call him a friend.”
