by The 2010 NY-Penn League season will kick off like many of the previous ones, but with a twist. On Friday June 18, 2010 at 7:00pm the Brooklyn Cyclones will take on the Staten Island Yankees for the opening game of the season, except this year it will be at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George. This will be the first time since the 2002 season that the Baby Bombers will open the season at home.
As usual the Staten Island Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones will meet up a total of fourteen times during the season (7 in Staten Island and 7 in Brooklyn). After opening the season with a three-game set they will not meet again until July 1-3. They will meet again July 23 to July 26, July 31 to August 1, then finally August 18 and 19.
Staten Island closes out their season with a three-game home series against the Vermont Lake Monsters while the Cyclones finish theirs out with a long six-game home stand against the Lake Monsters and the Tri-City Valley Cats.
The Yankees will play a total of seven home games in June, with fourteen in July, thirteen in August, and four in September. The Cyclones play six home games in June, fourteen in July, thirteen in August, and five games in September.
On August 17, 2010 the Richmond County Bank Ballpark will play host to the 2010 NY-Penn League All-Star Game, marking the second time in the event’s history that it takes place in New York City and the first time an All-Star Game has been held on Staten Island.
The Cyclones will be managed by former New York Met Wally Backman, however there has been no announcment on who will lead the Yankees in 2010.
